Constitution Bench of SC to take up all Aadhaar-related pleas in the last week of November LATEST NEWS :  The Supreme Court on Friday refused to place an interim stay on mandatory linking of Aadhaar numbers with bank accounts and mobile telecom services, saying all Aadhaar-related pleas will be taken up for final hearing by the court’s constitution Bench in the last week of November. The apex court issued a notice to the Centre on pleas challenging the government’s bid to get bank accounts and mobile numbers linked with Aadhaar . The Supreme Court also clarified that banks would have to indicate in their messages to customers that December 31 is the last date for linking of Aadhaar with accounts. The final date for linking of Aadhaar and mobile phones is February 6, 2018, and telecom service providers would have to inform their customers about this. Govt has asked states to complete Aadhaar enrollment of school children by August 31 LATEST NEWS :    Centre has asked Karnataka and 15 other states to complete Aadhaar enrollment of school children by August 31 and submit the data to ensure serving of the mid-day meal to them "in a seamless manner." According to Deccan Herald, this comes as the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry observed that many of these 16 States were lagging far behind in completion of the task, with Nagaland having enrolled just 15 percent of 1,59,449 students to Aadhaar. In Karnataka, only 70 percent of the total number of students have so far been enrolled to Aaadhar card . The requirement of mandatorily quoting the Aadhaar number is effective from July 1 Expatriates who have stayed for at least 182 days in India a year before July 1, 2017, need to apply for  Aadhaar   if they are filing tax returns in the country. Else, they would have to file returns by June 30 this year. The income tax (I-T) department clarified that foreign nationals who stayed less than 182 days need not quote the Aadhaar number in their I-T returns. According to the Aadhaar Act, 2016, those who have stayed in India for at least 182 days (almost six months) in a year preceding the date of application for Aadhaar are considered residents.
