Jaypee Associates has to deposit the Rs 1.25 billion by January 25 LATEST NEWS :  The Supreme Court on Wednesday told Jaypee Associates to deposit Rs 1.25 billion as directed failing which it would be held in contempt of court and could land in Tihar Jail. The amount is part of the Rs 20 bn that the top court had directed Jaypee Associates to deposit with its registry to pay the home buyers of Jaypee Infratech seeking a refund of their money. Jaypee Associates has to deposit the Rs 1.25 billion by January 25. A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A. M. Khanwilkar and Justice D Y Chandrachud also directed Jaypee Associates to file an affidavit stating all the housing projects they were developing. LATEST NEWS :  The Supreme Court on Friday extended till March 31 next year the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with various services and welfare schemes. A five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, in an interim order, also modified its earlier order with regard to linking of Aadhaar with mobile services and said the deadline of February 6 next year for this purpose also stood extended till March 31. The bench, which also comprised Justices A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan, said that for opening new bank accounts, an applicant will not be required to provide Aadhaar number to the bank. Constitution Bench of SC to take up all Aadhaar-related pleas in the last week of November LATEST NEWS :  The Supreme Court on Friday refused to place an interim stay on mandatory linking of Aadhaar numbers with bank accounts and mobile telecom services, saying all Aadhaar-related pleas will be taken up for final hearing by the court’s constitution Bench in the last week of November. The apex court issued a notice to the Centre on pleas challenging the government’s bid to get bank accounts and mobile numbers linked with Aadhaar . The Supreme Court also clarified that banks would have to indicate in their messages to customers that December 31 is the last date for linking of Aadhaar with accounts. The final date for linking of Aadhaar and mobile phones is February 6, 2018, and telecom service providers would have to inform their customers about this.
