Tata Motors cruises past Honda, becomes country's fourth-largest car player

Has 5.33% share in India - the fifth-largest passenger vehicle market where 3 million units are sold annually LATEST NEWS :  Tata Motors’s sales increased 19 per cent this financial year, helping it to race ahead of Japanese carmaker Honda Cars and secure the fourth spot among peers in the domestic market. In the same period, Honda’s sales rose by 17 per cent. Between April 2017 and January 2018, T ata Motors sold 149,284 units of passenger vehicles. Honda Cars sold 144,802 units in the period. In FY17, Tata Motors had sold 153,151 units, compared to Honda’s 157,313 units. Honda, however, claimed to be unperturbed by the change in the pecking order. “What we try to achieve is a higher market share. We require at least a 10 per cent share in the Indian market to have a sustainable position,” said Yoichiro Ueno, president and chief executive officer, Honda Cars India. M&M, Ford brace for a joint ride to develop electric vehicles, expand reach

Teams from both companies will work together for a period of up to three years LATEST NEWS :       Homegrown utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and American auto major Ford have decided to look at joint development of products, especially electric and connected vehicles. The partnership will also look at expanding Ford’s reach in the domestic market and Mahindra’s access to global markets. Tata Motors Q1 net rises 42% to Rs 3,182 cr on JLR's pension plans

Changes to the way JLR's pension payments are calculated resulted in a one-time gain of Rs 3,609 cr LATEST NEWS    : Tata Motors Ltd posted a 42% rise in quarterly profit on Wednesday. Profit was Rs 3,182 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, compared with Rs 2,236 crore a year earlier, the company said. The automaker, owned by the software-to-salt conglomerate Tata Group, said its total income fell about 10% to Rs 59,972 crore versus Rs 66,339 crore a year ago. After announcing results, the company said, "First quarter results have not met our expectations." It plans to launch its new car Nexon in September. The company made a one- time gain of Rs 3,609 crore related to the changes made to Jaguar Land Rover pension plans. Volume sales, including exports of commercial and passenger vehicles for the quarter stood at 1,11,860 units, down 11.8% when compared to the corresponding quarter last year, it said. Tigor launched at Rs 4.7 lakh: Tata eyes a seat in Swift Dzire's market

It comes in four variants in the price range of Rs 4.7 lakh to Rs 6.19 lakh Upping the ante in the crowded compact sedan category,  Tata Motors  on Wednesday launched Tata Tigor , its third product in the tax-efficient sub-four metre sedan segment. The biggest selling point for Tigor is its aggressive pricing. At Rs 4.7 lakh for the base petrol variant, Tigor is now the cheapest compact sedan in the country and even undercuts Tata’s existing models. For example, the largest-selling car in the segment - Swift Dzire - starts at Rs 5.27 lakh, while the base petrol version of Indigo CS, from the Tata stable, is priced at Rs 5.03 lakh. Besides Indigo CS, Tata Motors also sells the Zest in the segment, but has not been able to break the dominance of Maruti Suzuki’s Swift Dzire in the category.
