Paytm to raise Rs 12,000 crore from Softbank in largest e-commerce funding

The funding, expected to materialise in 3 weeks, to help push firm's banking and finance investments Alibaba-backed online marketplace company Paytm , which is in a rapid expansion mode, is in talks for a fresh round of funding for investment in banking and finance, besides other expansion plans. The company, it is learnt, is looking to raise around Rs 12,000 crore from Japan’s SoftBank, in the single-largest investment in an e-commerce company. The funding, it is believed, could materialise within the next three weeks, though Paytm Founder and Chief Executive Officer Vijay Shekhar Sharma did not comment on it. Tata Motors to supply 3,192 Safari Storme SUVs to Indian army

The company elaborated that the SUV will replace Maruti Gypsy in the 4x4 light vehicle category Automobile major Tata Motors on Thursday said it will supply 3,192 units of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) Tata Safari Storme to the Indian Army. The contract was signed with the Indian Army for the supply of the SUVs under a new category of vehicles -- GS800 (General Service 800), according to the company. "The Indian Ministry of Defence (MOD) had floated a request for proposal (RFP) for vehicles with three basic criteria -- minimum payload capacity of 800 kg, hard roofs and air conditioning," the company said in a statement. Modi during his day-long visit to the Queen of Hills launched the central government's UDAN, or "Ude Desh ka Har Nagarik" scheme, building efficient regional air connectivity, from Jubbarhatti, the tabletop airport located 2,196 metre above sea-level and some 22 km from here. Himachal govt yet to approve viability gap funding demand made by Alliance Air of Rs 1.4 lakh/flight An Alliance Air ATR-42 aircraft with 15 passengers will take off from Shimla airport on 11.15 am on Thursday heralding the launch of regional connectivity scheme (RCS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Shimla-Delhi flight from Himachal Pradesh capital and launch two other services (Kadapa-Hyderabad and Nanded-Hyderabad) under the government policy, which aims to link unconnected towns with affordable fares. The Kadapa-Hyderabad and Nanded-Hyderbad flights will be operated by TruJet and minimum tickets on these two routes is priced at Rs 1,000 one way. “We will operate the ATR-42 aircraft five times a week between Delhi-Shimla. No end to data wars: Reliance Jio free offers to continue for 12-18 months

Jio reached the 100 million user mark in the first 170 days The free schemes and recharge options that Reliance Jio is offering to its customers is likely to continue for the next 12-18 months, which means other telecom services providers like Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL will have to step up efforts to counter Jio's strategy.         Jio's tactic would lead to pressure on the average revenue per user (ARPU) of incumbent operators, US bank Morgan Stanley said in a report. It added that ARPU for Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India has been effectively capped at about Rs 300 due to Jio’s current offers, a report published in The Economic Times said. With petrol pumps, Reliance turns retail into Rs 34,000-crore biz

The company's revenue for the fourth quarter was Rs 10,332 crore, up 18.9 per cent sequentially Reliance Retail , the retail arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, reported a 65.6 per cent jump in profit before depreciation, interest and tax (PBDIT) to Rs 366 crore for the quarter ended March 31, against Rs 221 crore in the same period last financial year. The PBDIT stood at Rs 333 crore in the quarter ended December 31. The figures are not strictly comparable, though, as the company put its petroleum retail business under its organised retail segment from 2016-17. The company’s revenue for the fourth quarter was Rs 10,332 crore, up 18.9 per cent sequentially. Revenue for the full year was Rs 33,765 crore ($5.2 billion), up 60.2 per cent as compared to the previous year. But, again, the previous year’s numbers did not include fuel retailing. Indian IT firms account for less than 20 per cent of the H-1B visas Indian IT industry's apex organisation has said that the two top companies -- TCS and Infosys -- got only 8.8 per cent of the H-1B visas for placement of workers in the United States. "Of the six Indian IT companies, software majors TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) and Infosys received 7,504 H-1B visas in FY 2015, which is 8.8 per cent of the total H-1B visas," said the National Association of Software Services and Companies (Nasscom) in a statement here. The apex body's clarification was in response to a US official last week accusing top Indian IT firms TCS and Infosys of unfairly cornering majority of the H-IB visas, by applying more in the lottery system.
